Robert sparked the fire.

In January 2022, I joined Robert’s framebuilding course.
And in just five days, I built my very first bicycle frame.

Before the course, I had a bike fitting with Martin Schwier (Veloskop) to define the geometry that would truly suit me.
The time leading up to the course – and the course itself – was fantastic.

Robert shares his knowledge freely.
He explains what matters, what to look out for, and draws from many years of hands-on experience in framebuilding.
Even the jigs and fixtures in his workshop – many of which he built himself – are full of thought and experience, and he’s happy to explain how they work.

I learned a lot.

From one frame to the next

I was so excited about my first self-built bike that I decided to build a gravel bike for my wife as well.

With the skills I gained in Robert’s course – and a good amount of time in the workshop – I started making my own jigs, fixtures, and tools.
It took a while, but it was worth every minute.

My wife also had a bike fitting. I designed the geometry and, with Robert’s support, selected the right materials.
That’s how my second frame was born – and she’s been riding it for two years now, with joy and many kilometers behind her.

The Hardtail idea

While working on the second gravel bike, the idea for a hardtail MTB came up spontaneously.
The Bespoke 2023 show in Dresden added new inspiration, and I revised my tooling and built a few new fixtures.

The result: a hardtail frame with bends in every tube and fully integrated cable routing through the top tube and seat stays.

The bike was built for the Stoneman Miriquidi, and that’s the name it carries.
I’ve ridden it on that route, in bike parks, and on longer tours. This summer, I’m planning to cross the Alps with it.

The geometry suits my riding style perfectly. The many mounting points are a big advantage for touring.
The only thing I’d change: tire clearance at the chainstays is a bit tight – and sometimes a stone kicks up and chips the paint.
But that’s something I can improve next time.

What’s next?

Framebuilding has become a new and creative part of my free time.
This winter, I plan to build another gravel bike.

And once again, Bespoke and Robert’s framebuilding course will have something to do with it. 😉

Want to build your own custom frame?

The first step is a good frame design – and that begins with a personal geometry session with Robert.
