Martin attended our frame building course in September, and by October, he had already finished building his bike! Sealed with a special oil, it looks fantastic, and we are both curious about how durable it will be! Martin took some time to answer our questions….

How did you come up with the idea of building your own frame?
I really enjoy working on bikes, especially old steel racing bikes. I now have a small collection of racing bikes from the 1960s to the 1990s. For some time now, the idea has been growing to not only work on the bikes but also to build a frame myself.

Why did you choose this frame? What do you plan to do with it?
I prefer lugged steel frames. They look visually light and graceful, but they are very stable and robust. In my view, steel is the optimal material for my racing bike, even if there are lighter materials available. As a recreational athlete, I don’t care about a few grams more or less.

What is special to you about your self-built frame?
Building a frame myself according to my own ideas is very special.

How was your time in the frame building course?
It was a great time. I learned a lot and felt very well taken care of.

How does your finished bike ride?
It is truly a joy for me to ride this bike. It is my favorite bike!
