Ralf’s New Bike! Frame Building Course Q & A
3. February 2024Cleaning your chain with an ultrasonic cleaner
8. March 2024Marcel was in Potsdam in 2023 to build his first steel bike frame, and now he finished building the complete bike. He had some time to take some pictures and wow it really turned out great! He also had some time to answer a few of our questions…
”After a bit of time my frame is finally finished, the bike is built up, and I already managed to enjoy the first few kilometres, it really rides great! It is no problem to ride free-handed, and rides straight as well! Thanks again for a really great course!”
How did you come up with the idea to build your own frame?
I had already built up a few bikes from scratch, but never built my own frame, and that was missing. I really like steel as a material for bike frames for a variety of reasons. It’s is really a great feeling to build something with your own hands, and I enjoy it again and again every time I ride it.
Why did you decide to build this bike? What do you plan to do with it?
I ride a lot of small roads through the countryside, forest trails and bike paths, so I wanted this bike to be very flexible from where it can go. I also wanted it to be comfortable, but still have the feeling that I am sitting on a road bike. With this bike I really made all of that possible, to ride everywhere I want to go, not only on perfect asphalt.
What is special about the frame that you built?
The details that I thought about myself. That I actually built the frame myself, and that my vision became a reality, and that it is really a one-of-a-kind that I built my with my own hands.
How was your time in your frame building course?
It was really fun, and the exchanges with Konrad und Robert were also nice. I was excited for every day to come!
How does your bike ride?
I am really happy, the bike is fast, turns good, comfortable, but still stiff, like you expect steel to be. It’s really fun to ride through forests and fields, small backroads, where I would have never gone on my road bike.
