My Custom XCR Build
17. April 2025Made from XCR. With a tree. For breakfast.
What happens when there’s a piece of Columbus XCR tubing lying around the workshop, no frame currently on the jig – and Karsten has an idea?
Exactly: you build an egg cup.
But of course, not just any egg cup.
This one is made from polished, stainless Columbus XCR.
With our tree logo carefully brazed on.
Shiny. Solid. And surprisingly elegant.
The idea – like so many here – came up in passing.
Karsten said, “I actually need an egg cup. But you know… a nice one.”
And there it was: a short offcut from another project.
Perfect diameter. Kind of beautiful. Too nice to throw away.
Two hours later, it was done:
A small, stainless throne for a breakfast egg.
Polished. With our logo. Almost too nice to use.
What’s the point?
Not much.
Except maybe a quiet reminder:
That framebuilding isn’t just about alignment, precision, and geometry –
it’s also about ideas, play, and what happens when your hands follow curiosity.
And sometimes, the best side project isn’t a tool holder –
but a small piece of craft for the breakfast table.
Thanks, Karsten, for this delightfully unnecessary idea.
And in case you’re wondering: yes, it’s food-safe. It’s XCR. 😉
P.S.: We’re already considering a small batch.
Hand-brazed, of course.
