From Beginner 2 Builder - in just 15 days
Master Class in Frame Building
This is the ultimate frame building course. It’s meant for those of you that don’t just want to build a frame or two, but for those that want to TRANSFORM their lives and continue building for years to come. ”Practice makes perfect”! We will build 3 frames in 3 Weeks: a lugged road frame and fork, a fillet brazed MTB/Road/Gravel/Touring frame, and your ‘Meisterstuck’, a fillet brazed stainless steel (Columbus XCR, Reynolds 931) road or gravel frame. We believe that building the third frame really helps you to retain what you have learned in the previous two weeks. We will actually do our best to stay out of your way for the third frame, leaving you to develop your problem solving skills that are undoubtedly the most important skills you’ll need in your future career as a frame builder.
In this 15 day frame building course you will:
- go home with three frames, one lugged, one fillet brazed, and one fillet brazed stainless
- Silver brazed with lugs
- Fillet brazed with brass
- Fillet brazed with silver
- you’ll learn about frame Geometry and design
- cut the tubes, file, and braze them together
- by building three frames, you will better digest and retain everything you have learned, as well a gain more experience by building different types of bikes
- if you’re interested in continuing to build frames after your experience at Big Forest Frameworks, this is your course! The third week really helps to solidify what you have learned over the previous two weeks.
Both. Brazed. Frames. Plus one more.
First we’ll build the lugged brazed frame, which is the easiest of the three frames, and a great introduction to frame building and the best way to begin. For a road frame with rim brakes we’ll also have time to build a lugged fork to fit the frame. With the experience of the lugged frame under your belt, you’re well prepared to build the more challenging fillet brazed frame (MTB, Road, Gravel, City/Touring), and it will be more fun. Then you put everything that you’ve learned until now into your ‘Mesiterstuck’, a fillet brazed road or gravel frame built from Columbus XCR stainless steel tubing.
It could be yours.
This is what you get.
1. Time & Place
The Beginner 2 Builder frame building course lasts 15 days (3 Weeks M-F). The course takes place in my workshop in Potsdam-Babelsberg (only 30 minutes from Berlin via the S-Bahn). You can see the available dates here. Your three weeks do not need to be back to back, simply choose three weeks that fit your schedule. There are a maximum of 3 students. If you are unsure about the dates, you can also reserve with choosing just a single week, and then contacting us via e-mail: info@bigforestframeworks.com
2. Possible Bikes
Most people first build a lugged single speed or road bike, with rim brakes, as well as a fork. Then a fillet brazed road, gravel, touring, or mountain bike. If you prefer, you can also build two fillet brazed frames. The third frame is a fillet brazed frame made of stainless steel, and is limited to a road or gravel frame.
3. Difficulty
For the first frame we’ll build a frame with lugs. The second more difficult fillet brazed frame will be built in the second week. In the third week we will build the fillet brazed road or gravel frame from stainless steel tubing. We don’t necessarily cover new skills, but rather try to leave you to yourself, to hone your technique and understanding, allowing you to develop as a frame builder, to further strengthen the retention of what we have covered in the past two weeks.
4. What you do
Everything. Some frame building courses concentrate more on the theory. In some courses tubes are already cut before you get there. In my opinion cutting and brazing is the bread and butter of frame building. In my courses, under my direction, you will build the frame completely by yourself.
5. What I do
I have all the tools you’ll need to build your frame, plus thousands of hours of experience building pretty much every kind of bike you can think of. Working together, you can build your own frame that you will go home happy with.
6. Extras
Material costs are not included in the course fees. The material cost can vary quite a bit from frame to frame. The typical material cost for a fillet brazed frame is around 350 – 700 Euro. Material cost for a fillet brazed stainless frame (Columbus XCR) is around 1500 Euro.
Happy Faces. Beautiful Bikes.

“Thanks for the awesome week! The frame building course was awesome, I can’t think of a better way to spend my vacation. The ‘work’ was really fun and I learned a ton. I’m really happy with how the frame turned out, and super proud that I actually built it myself. The geometry fits me perfectly and rides even better than I could have imagined!”

“Thanks again for the awesome week! The course was really fun and I am really proud of the frame I built. I think you are a great teacher. Always patient, you explained everything really well, and the ‘work’ of building the frame was never really like ‘work’ and I had a great time! :-)”

“Sorry for bothering you with pictures from my bike. I tested it today for the first time and it was fantastic. I usually do not tend to be super-enthusiastic and there were of course some minor issues (like getting the position of the saddle right etc) but this was by far the most convincing test-ride ever. Super stable, yet agile, very direct. I loved every second with it.”
