Michal built his own frame in our frame building course in November 2022. Now the bike is completed, and he sent us great photos! Congratulations, Michal, it looks awesome!
How did you find me, and how did you hear about the frame building courses?
Through the website Rennrad-News.de. There was a December report about the Craft Bikes Days 2021, where Big Forest Frameworks introduced their bikes. After that, I initially researched Big Forest Frameworks and was immediately excited that there are such things as frame building courses.
How did you come up with the idea of building your own frame?
Actually, it was through that random online post. I thought, how cool would it be to gift myself a frame building course for my 40th birthday. My wife was immediately supportive since she shares my passion for cycling.
Why did you choose this frame? What do you plan to do with it?
I find gravel frames with lugs to be stylish, making this frame a dream for me.
Usage: Work rides, bikepacking, endless gravel, and occasionally some trails. If all goes well, I aim to do a cycling tour in Taiwan.
What is special to you about your self-built frame?
The beautiful lugs + lightweight Columbus steel + the ability to route the brake and shift cables through the down tube and then into the chainstays (Thanks to Konrad, that was his suggestion). And of course, the perfectly tailored geometry by you; thank you very much.
How was your time in the frame building course?
Very pleasant, with a cohesive atmosphere in a comfortable workshop filled with bike enthusiasts. It still felt like a vacation for me.
After thorough instructions, you were allowed to do everything yourself and received great tips. Help was readily available for any questions.
I also found it really cool that there was a shared evening bike ride in the sleet, followed by a round of beers. I felt completely at home with you.
How does your finished bike ride?
It rides excellently; I can’t get the smile off my face while riding.
